Raleigh, NC: Lancaster County and Indian Land resident volleyball coach, Jim Seidel has taken his team (Gaston Day Spartans), for a second year in a row to the North Carolina NCISAA State Championship title match. They faced Davidson Day, a team the Spartans had already defeated once in the regular season. In a highly competitive and tough match, the Spartans ultimately fell short to the Patriots in three sets 26-24, 25-19 and 25-17. Seidel added after the game, “coaching in a state championship has always been a dream of mine, I have been fortunate to have coached in two of them back to back”. ” We have four seniors, but a very young team with one 7th grader, four 8th graders, two freshman, two sophomores and the remainder five players are upperclassmen”, added coach Seidel. “As coach Jim Valvano always said, “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up”. “These are words our team lived up to everyday, and it showed on the court”, stated coach Seidel. Gaston Day went 35-5 this season, winning the Metrolina Area Conference regular season title and the MAC Tournament.
